An accountant keeps a business's financial records accurate and up to date. Daily work includes entering sales, purchase, payment and receipt vouchers in Tally, maintaining ledgers for customers and suppliers, reconciling bank statements, tracking stock, raising GST-compliant invoices, preparing data for GST returns, handling payroll entries and producing reports such as the trial balance, profit and loss account and balance sheet.
Accountants work in trading firms, shops and showrooms, manufacturing units, hospitals, schools, transport companies, CA firms and tax consultants' offices. Small businesses often hire accountants part-time, and experienced people also handle accounts for several clients.
Demand is steady because almost every registered business in India must keep proper books and file GST returns, and Tally is one of the most widely used accounting packages among small and medium businesses. This roadmap moves from Tally basics to deeper features and GST, adds Excel for reports and reconciliations, and ends with advanced Tally practice.
Learn accounting in Tally step by step, add GST and Excel, and practise on sample company data. With 12th Commerce you can start as an accounts assistant, and a B.Com alongside helps you grow to accountant and manager roles.
Tally is a strong start because many small and medium businesses use it. Employers also expect GST knowledge, Excel skills and a clear understanding of accounting principles, which is why this roadmap combines all three.
The full roadmap totals about 318 hours: Tally Associate 40, Tally Professional 80, Tally GST Pro 30, Excel Associate and Expert 48 and Tally Expert 120. The first four steps, about 198 hours, cover most entry-level work.
Yes. The Tally Associate course starts with basic accounting concepts, so students from science or arts can follow it. You may need a little extra practice on debit and credit rules.
