Material management is the planning, purchasing, storing and control of materials so that a factory, project or business gets the right material in the right quantity, at the right time and cost. It brings together procurement, vendor management, inventory control, stores and logistics, and it is a core function in manufacturing plants, construction projects, retail chains and warehouses.
The Diploma in Material Management runs for 3 months and covers the full cycle. You study materials planning with forecasting, bills of materials and MRP concepts; the purchase cycle from indent, quotations and comparative statements to purchase orders and e-procurement; and vendor selection and rating. Inventory control topics include EOQ, reorder levels, safety stock and ABC, VED and FSN analysis, while stores management covers receipts, GRN, issues, bin cards and stock verification. Codification, warehousing, logistics, incoming inspection and GST basics in purchase documents are also included, along with practical Excel work for stock registers and purchase analysis and an overview of ERP materials modules. Case studies and a final project report complete the programme, taught in CADD classrooms or live online.
The diploma supports careers such as store keeper, store officer, purchase executive, inventory controller, material coordinator and warehouse supervisor. An Excel course is a useful next step, since stock and purchase reports depend on it.
